Meningioma following cranial irradiation.
نویسنده
چکیده
The case of a middle aged man who developed a meningioma directly underneath the site of a naevus treated with radiotherapy as a child, is presented. Epidemiological evidence and reports of similar cases suggesting meningiomas may be a sequel to irradiation, are reviewed.

Radiation-induced meningioma evaluated with positron emission tomography with fludeoxyglucose F 18.
We describe a patient with radiation-induced meningioma 12 years after cranial irradiation for ectopic germinoma. PET scans with fludeoxyglucose F 18 showed a high glucose metabolic rate in the meningioma despite a benign histologic appearance.
متن کاملMultiple meningiomas induced by cranial irradiation.
The role of radiation in the induction of central nervous system tumours has repeatedly been documented. Meningiomas induced by low doses of cranial irradiation have been described in many series of cases, but meningiomas induced by high doses of irradiation have still been reported in a limited number of cases. We report the case of a 25-year-old man who presented multiple meningiomas and who ...
متن کاملRadiation-induced meningiomas in multiple regions, showing rapid recurrence and a high MIB 1 labeling index: a case report and review of the literature
Combined chemotherapy and prophylactic cranial irradiation has improved the prognosis of children with acute leukemia. However cranial irradiation carries a latent risk of the induction of secondary intracranial tumors. We encountered a patient who developed multiple intracranial radiation-induced meningiomas (RIMs) 25 years after prophylactic cranial irradiation for the treatment of acute leuk...
متن کاملIntraoperative Extracorporeal Irradiation for the Treatment of the Meningioma-Infiltrated Calvarium
Objectives Complete removal of infiltrated bone is required to achieve a Simpson Grade 1 meningioma resection. Reconstruction of the resulting bone defect is typically achieved with a nonnative implant that can result in poor cosmesis, foreign body reaction, or infection. Extracorporeal irradiation and reimplantation of tumorous bone has been used for limb-sparing surgery with excellent results...
متن کاملRecurrent intracranial meningioma with multiple pulmonary metastases: A case report
Meningiomas are slow-growing tumors, which are generally considered to be benign and rarely metastasize. Although cases of extracranial metastatic meningioma have previously been reported, multiple pulmonary metastases from a benign intracranial meningioma is particularly rare. In the present report, a case of recurrent transitional meningioma with multiple lung nodules, which were demonstrated...
